EXPERIENCING THE LORD OF SHIRDI

Image
I, as a child, always had a keen interest to know more and more about human gods. I remember asking my parents regarding the difference between worshipping a god and a human god. My grandmother used to reply, “There are no such human gods. God is one.” But since my childhood days, I always used to hear about people worshipping human gods who existed among us in our society. Nevertheless, I never bothered to believe such people. But things changed suddenly. As time passed by and I entered my college life, I started believing the power of human gods. Today, I am a firm devotee of Shri Shirdi Sai Baba. I do not have any particular memory on how I suddenly changed myself into a Sai devotee. But, yes, me and my family have always been experiencing a presence of him in our family since past few years. My father was the first devotee of Baba in our family. He used to donate a few amount on every Thursdays to a Sai Baba Temple near to his office. He started contributing money without...

Byline in HT

One of the article of my choice which came published in Hindustan Times, Ranchi Edition. PRESS OWNERS SAY ELECTIONS FETCH THEM BIG MONEY Meera V Nair jam.live@hindustantimes.com Jamshedpur : Change is the only constant in life. But even after years, banners and posters remain the unsurpassed medium for political campaigning.  HT met some of the Jamshedpur's top printers to get a peek into the changes that this unsurpassed mode of campaigning has gone through in terms of designing and printing material. "Election banners and posters might be primitive but the medium is the most effective for election campaign", said Salim of Steel Printers. He added that over the years, parties have demanded additional colours and effects on the government -approved design to make the banners, posters or flags catchy. "However, the printing matter is given by the party and is not tampered with." According to Salim, during elections there is an increase o...

GIVE A BAN ON FEMALE FOETICIDE She is a woman, mother, daughter, wife, sister…She is strong, passionate, sneaky, courageous, generous, emotions, committed, hope, beauty, power. She gives you life, respect, love, gratitude, she believes in you, take care of you, fight for you and deserve everything.   “I am a girl…Please don’t kill me”, is becoming the unheard whimper of most of the girls who take a place inside the womb of their mother. India, where girls are supposed to be worshiped as Goddess, is being killed before they take birth. And I challenge, this happens the most in our incredible country. Most of the people in our society prefer male child as it will be a less burden for them in the mere future. Today, it has become a trend to go for all sorts of sex determination through various means like ultrasound, vitro fertilization etc. Female foetuses are being aborted after the pre-natal sex determination, ultimately leading to avoiding the birt...

Amidst Beliefs Many a time’s people might have heard about different pious superstitions. There is a temple in Jamshedpur( my birth place) which is known as Bhuvanagiri complex. It is known by this name because there two temples within a compound, one is the Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple and the other is Bhuvaneshwari temple. Both the temples together are known as Bhuwanagiri complex. When I was in Jamshedpur, I used to visit this temple very often. But I was unaware of the credence of the devotees who visited this temple. There is a small Shiv Temple attached to the Buvanashwari mandir. The shivling of this shiv temple was very famous among the citizens of the city. The shivling grows up on its own year by year. This was one of the beliefs of the devotees. I came to know about this when I was in 11th standard during the eve of Maha Shivrartri. I and my family visited to the temple to get the blessings of Lord Shiva on this occasion. I heard one of the devotees saying that the shival...

Women in Afghanistan The life of women in Afghanistan is like a hell, especially the Muslim women. Islam means the submission of humankind to the will of god and not the submission of women to the will of men. The afghan Taliban’s announced that girls should not be sent to school, women should be thrown out of their jobs. This news really saddened the American Muslims as it came as a shock wave. Prophet had said that search of knowledge is compulsory over every Muslim, irrespective of their gender (male or female). A letter from afghan women. Please go through it: This is an open letter for all Pakistanis and the Muslim world. I want to expose certain criminals and unveil their ferocious atrocities, to all of my Muslim brethren. I am an Afghan Muslim woman of Hazara origin. My age is 44 and I am reasonably educated as compared to most of the women in Afghanistan . I was living in Mazar-e-Sharif with my husband and two children, a son and a daughter. My husband had a leather shop i...

Raise your voice against child marriage

CHILD MARIAGES Why is the child marriage taking place?? Why doesn’t the society come out of this concept of getting the children married at an early stage? It is so sad…..Just think for a moment how would we feel if we were the victims of this social evil. But we are the lucky ones. Our fate favored us…But what about our brothers and sisters who are facing this social evil and are getting ensnared under it Child marriage is a violation against human rights. The most conventional way of child marriage is getting the girl child (who is below 18 years) married to an adult man. But in places like Rajasthan the parents of both the girl and boy child fixes the marriage and later on they are married in future. Suppose the family of a girl child is poor and they don’t have any value in the society. What they do is that they fix the marriage of their daughter to a boy child of a royal family, so that they can also get the regal status. This is the aim of child marriages in most places. In In...
