Raise your voice against child marriage

CHILD MARIAGES
Why is the child marriage taking place?? Why doesn’t the society come out of this concept of getting the children married at an early stage? It is so sad…..Just think for a moment how would we feel if we were the victims of this social evil. But we are the lucky ones. Our fate favored us…But what about our brothers and sisters who are facing this social evil and are getting ensnared under it
Child marriage is a violation against human rights. The most conventional way of child marriage is getting the girl child (who is below 18 years) married to an adult man. But in places like Rajasthan the parents of both the girl and boy child fixes the marriage and later on they are married in future. Suppose the family of a girl child is poor and they don’t have any value in the society. What they do is that they fix the marriage of their daughter to a boy child of a royal family, so that they can also get the regal status. This is the aim of child marriages in most places.
In India, laws have been passed to prevent the child marriages. The goal of national plan of Action for children 2005 states that it will eliminate the child marriage completely by 2010. This plan is proving to be successful. But it’s very sad to know that 40% of the world’s child marriage takes place in India.
Child marriages can also affect the health of the girl child after she gives birth. In most of the cases, the girl victim of the child marriage conceives at a young age and this affects the health of the girl. Child marriages usually take place in rural areas where there is no access to good medical facilities which indirectly affects both the mother and the child.
I am from Jharkhand and child marriage is also prevalent there among the tribals. I have come across a girl named Pooja(name changed) who was married off at the age of 11 to a man of 45 years of age. She conceived at the age of 13 and her husband died soon because of some disease. The girl was considered to be useless and was asked to take care of her child on her own by the society.
Child marriage should be banned totally. We should make the society aware of its crime. Instead of marrying of the young children, society should lend them a helping hand to get educated. Today’s children are the future of India. I wish that child marriage would be debarred completely and all there would be an increase in literacy rate of rural India.

  1. Due to such practices children especially girls don't get educated, every family must be asked to educate a girl and this should be mandatory
