GIVE A BAN ON FEMALE FOETICIDE
She is a woman, mother, daughter, wife, sister…She is
strong, passionate, sneaky, courageous, generous, emotions, committed, hope,
beauty, power. She gives you life, respect, love, gratitude, she believes in
you, take care of you, fight for you and deserve everything.
“I am a girl…Please don’t kill me”, is
becoming the unheard whimper of most of the girls who take a place inside the
womb of their mother. India, where girls are supposed to be worshiped as
Goddess, is being killed before they take birth. And I challenge, this happens
the most in our incredible country.
Most of the people in our society prefer male child as it
will be a less burden for them in the mere future. Today, it has become a trend
to go for all sorts of sex determination through various means like ultrasound,
vitro fertilization etc. Female foetuses are being aborted after the pre-natal
sex determination, ultimately leading to avoiding the birth of girls.
There are several factors that lead to killing of a female
foeticide. For example: Dowry should be provided for the marriage of a girl
child, girls are considered to be a burden in all aspects. Boys are measured to
be the pillar of the family as they earn a lot and have the capability to look
after their family. But things are changing these days…
“Girls are the weakest sex”, this statement is being verified
wrong by a number of females through different ways. Today, you can find women
working in all sectors of industries, and very few sit at home idle. You can
see a rise in the number of female journalists who act as equal as men and
fight to bring out the truth. Parents
need to understand that girls are as much important as male children in our
society. A very apt example can be of Pratibha Patil, Kiran Bedi etc. Inspite
all these, do we guys still believe that girls should be termed as the weaker
sex of society. ?
A number of shows have been telecasted on air which raised
the issue of female foeticide. One among them was the popular show of Aamir
Khan (producer/actor/director), named Satyamev Jayate. It brought into
limelight a several number of social issues and one of the major issue that was
debated and discussed upon was of female foeticide. Committees like Khap panchayat have been
formed wherein such issues are being dealt to reduce the problem.
There are some outrageous facts related to this social evil
custom:
1)
One out of every three girls does not live to
see her 15th birthday.
2)
Most of these deaths take place at the time of
the birth.
3)
Every 6th child’s death is due to sex
determination.
Now it depends on us that how
should we change the mindset of the people in our society. Abortion has been granted legal in India but
aborting a girl child because it is a female has several stringent punishments.
But still there are girls in different parts of our country who suffer because
they are born as GIRLS and they have only one prayer “Aagle jaannam more bitiye
Na banayo” (Do not make me a daughter in the next lifetime)
SAVE GIRL CHILD!!! SAVE INDIA…
