CURE WITH CARE FOR POOR AT MERCY HOSPITAL

Jamshedpur: More than four decade-old Mercy hospital is providing succor to the underprivileged section of the populace in the city outskirt in Baridih, Bagunathu, and other nearby areas.

The hospital which began in 1962 with only five beds and a small cabin has still maintained its tradition of offering free treatment to people with poor financial background and provide sufficient documentary evidence including income certificates and red cards.

The hospital has grown by leaps and bound in more than four decades since it is established. The hospital now houses a small laboratory, OPD, Operation theatre, ICU, Ultrasound, gastroscopic, peritoneal dialysis and other common facilities like X-ray, scanning etc.

Apart from all these facilities, they also provide surgeries including Oncology (for cancer patients) and Laparoscopic surgeries.

Sister Jessy, office administrator of the mercy hospital reiterated the vision and commitment stating, “Mercy hospital is known for giving free treatment for poor and needy and there are no plans to discontinue this facet. The hospital also provides concession for economically weaker people.”

Report 2---- KHALSA RAJ TO COME UP WITH SIKH ALBUM

JAMSHEDPUR: City based production house Khalsa Raj production would be releasing the first Punjabi devotional album from the steel city on June 16 at Bistupur Gurudwara.

The album is based on five ‘shabads’ (religious sermons) pertaining to sikh religious tenets.

The director of the album Khushwinder Singh, said “The idea of making this album came into my mind when I felt that Jamshedpur is a good location for shooting this album and after getting the support of Bistupur Gurudwara committee members, I planned to make the album in the city itself.”

The singer of the album is Hardeep Singh, Kuldeep Singh is the editor, Amarjeet Singh is the tabla artist, special effects are given by Harpreet Singh and Baljeet Singh is the assistant.

The CD of the album would be available at all leading music retail shops in the city and would be released in Punjab in August and thereafter across India.

The director, Khushwinder Singh has also acted as the assistant director of a Hindi movie( Pune Take Care).

He is also planning to work on his next project titled “ Guruwani” which will be held as a competition where participants will be divided according to their age groups.

The participants will be not only from Jamshedpur but also from states like Bihar, Orissa, Chattisgarh and Kolkata( West Bengal).

The first three rank holders in the competition will get an opportunity to sing for an album directed by Khushwinder Singh himself.

Report 3-----BIG BOLLYWOOD BREAK FOR STEEL CITY MUSICIAN

JAMSHEDPUR: Airudhan Nair of Jamshedpur is making waves in the Bollywood music industry. Nair has sung the song “THOKK KI DILLI” in director Mani Ratnam’s latest movie, Raavan.

An alumnus of Kerala Samajam Model School, Sakchi, and Nair studied here till class 7 before moving on to Don Bosco in Mumbai. He has been playing instruments in several hit movies before making his debut in Raavan as a playback singer.

The parents of Anirudh Nair, who is popularly known as Am’nico in Mumbai, still stay in Sakchi area of the steel city.

“I started learning piano at the age of four. I wanted to make a career in music and hence shifted to Chennai where I took piano lessons from Ashok Pramanik, I also studied music from KM Conservatory Music School in Chennai,” said Anirudhan speaking over phone from Chennai. He is currently composing songs for a Yash Raj movie.

Am’nico is full of praise to music maestro AR Rahman for giving him his big break. “AR for Rahman sir gave me the opportunity to enter into this industry. He had heard me play the piano in the KM Conservatory College. I remember standing in front of his studio( Panchthan studio) for seven months waiting for an opportunity to impress him with my skills. I have a lot of respect for Rahman sir and he is my idol. Singing a song under his direction was an unforgettable experience”, he said.

Nair was the keyboard artist in the Oscar winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire”. He has also composed music.

Nair dreams to work with Prasoon Joshi, the lyricist of movies like Dilli 6 and Rang De Basanti. He also want to work with music directors Illayaraja and Shanker Mahadevan.

Report 4-----PSYCHIATRIST TO OFFER TIPS ON STRESS FREE LIFE

Jamshedpur: Acclaimed psychiatrist and prominent speaker at the programme ha channel “Awakening with Brahma Kumari” telecast on Aastha channel, Dr.Girish Patel would be conducting a workshop in the city on June 27 at Rajendra Vidyalaya auditorium.

Dr.Patel would be there in the city just for a day for the workshop named “Success, its secret”. Dr. Patel who is associated with Brahma Kumari for last 35 years is a renowned international psychiatrist and an efficient advisor for stress free life. Advertising mediapersons, Dr.Patel said, “The programme would be conducted in two languages, Hindi and English. It would basically deal with issues like quality development, pyscosomatic, physical health, combating stress, meditation technique etc. Interaction and games session will also be a part of the workshop”.

The programme coordinator and senior functionary of Brahma Kumaris city chapter, BK Anju Behan said: “The workshop can accommodate 750 seats out of which only 300 seats have been registered till now. The participants are from Jamshedpur, Orissa, Bengal and Delhi. People above 14 years are eligible to participate in this workshop”. Free lunch will also be provided to the participants.

Dr.Patel has been very academically oriented. She was awarded a gold medal on December 1(World Aids Day) by Dr I C Roy in 1993.

Dr Patel has written several books, his first book being “Positive Health” at the age of 21. Since then, he wrote six books, which was later translated in Malaysian, Russian etc. In the year 1999, he was a part of an anti-tobacco campaign.

He also acted as a counselor in Tata Motors Hospital, Tata Main Hospital and various clubs.

Report 5----STEEL CITY WHIPS UP REGIONAL CUSINIES

Jamshedpur: Steel city is known for its cosmopolitan culture with varied communities living harmoniously for several decades. The city, host to some of the most important steel industries has also with passage of time seen the mushrooming of several eateries offering regional delicacies. HT takes a peep into some of the well known joints dishing out regional cuisines without one having to shell out much.

KERALA SAMAJAM

Kerala Samajam canteen was started in the mid 80’s which was later taken over by M Vasudevan. KPG Nair (presently working as the chief design and technical service in Tata Steel and also the then president of Samajam) suggested the idea of taking up the canteen. The board of trustee started the Samajam canteen in the year 1994. The canteen provides various kinds of South Indian dishes, naming a few like different kinds of dosa, idli, vada, coffee, tea and ice creams.

MADRASI SAMMELANI

93 year old Madrasi Sammelani is still running successfully. The Madrasi Sammelani canteen was taken over by managing committee 20 years back. Now it has G Ramamurthy as president and J Suresh as its secretary. The Sammelani canteen, whips up a variety of south Indian dishes that includes ‘Dahi vada’, ‘Rewa Kesari’, ‘Suji halwa’ etc. The canteen also provides lunch( thalli) for the people but there is no provision for dinner.

MAHARASHTRA HITKARI MANDAL

Marathi community in Steel city decided to start a canteen where only Marathi dishes would be available. The 20-25 year old Maharashtra Mandal serves only vegetarian food. Special meals like ‘kadi’, sweet dishes, puri and ‘aam ka ras’ etc are provided twice a week. Special meal cost around Rs 80 and normal meal cost Rs 70. During festive seasons like Gudi Padwa, Akshaya Tritiya, Ashadhi Ekadashi, Gokul Aashtami etc dishes like shrikhand and pooran poli are available.

MARWARI BASA

Badri Maharaj from Manoharpur( Rajasthan) established Marwari Basa 65 years ago ,during the Quit India movement. Rajasthani dishes without onion and garlic are served here. Kashi Pratap, the owner of Marwari Basa, said “We offer special dishes once in a week like ‘matha’, ‘paneer’ and ‘chola’ for which we charge Rs 10 extra.”
