Kids at Ambedkar Park to have a Go at Science
If things go as planned, the Ambedkar
Park here will soon have a full – fledged Science park inside its compound.
An amount of Rupees 15 lakhs has
already been sanctioned by the State Tourism Department for the Science Park,
which is being set up with a goal to educate the children and provide them
infotainment.
“We are planning to launch the Science
Park to attract more visitors as well as to educate the kids. The project has
already been sanctioned by the Tourism Department and the funds for the same
have been allotted. The entire region of the Ambedkar Park will not be
renovated. Only a portion will be used to set up the park,” said Paravoor
Municipal Chairman, Valsala Prasanna Kumar.
The Ambedkar Park which was
inaugurated in August 2000, by the then, Chief Minister – EK Nayanar, has been
attracting crowds from across the state.
Along with the Science Park, another
ambitious project is also in the pipeline – a Fantasy Park. The proposal has
already been put forth by the officials. Though the project is yet to be
sanctioned, it is estimated that an amount of Rupees 1 crore will be required
for the same. Raghu ram from Chennai will be the master designer of the Fantasy
Park. The funds for are expected to be generated from the MLA fund and the
funds from the Center.
Once the Science Park project is
implemented, the Ambedkar Park will undergo a drastic change in its outlook.
The broken infrastructure and the toy trains will be replaced a a art of the
new project.
“There is a need to renovate the park.
I hope the visitors will find it highly beneficial to have the Science Park.
Major efforts are being taken for the success of the Fantasy Park, which would
be an eco- friendly initiative,” said Beena Sasidharan, counselor of the
Paravoor Municipality. A small butterfly park is also a part of the project.
“It’s highly appreciable that the
Ambedkar Park is being renovated. It will b highly beneficial for the children
in this region,” said Geetha, a regular visitor to the park.
